Samsung's venture into fashion: No Apple lawsuit here for sure

The world certainly knows by now about Samsung's crushing defeat in a very expensive $1B U.S. lawsuit with Apple (call it a home court advantage, if you may). Unbeknownst to many, however, Samsung has ventured into fashion, having opened at least five stores already in South Korea since early this year.

But there aren't actually any Samsung-branded clothes out there. Apparently, the electronics giant has a subsidiary named Cheil Industries that serves as its fashion arm. Cheil has launched the brand 8ight Seconds, described as a SPA (specialty retailer of private-label apparel) brand also otherwise known as fast fashion. It promises to be "cheaper than Zara, trendier than Uniqlo."

Love the layering. And the color of these shorts.

I don't know about cheaper (than Zara) but they certainly look trendier (than Uniqlo). I went through their official blog and didn't understand a word. I suspect the site is blocking Google from translating the page. So I just went for the pictures.

The playful fold-up details of the shorts injects some fun into the ensemble.

From what I saw, the pieces are very consistent with Korean fashion, which are either full of color or quirk, or both.

Perfect color combo.

Love the pants and the polka dot shirt (Why is it so hard to find a decent polka dot shirt here in the Philippines anyway?).

This shirt is one of my faves.

8ight Seconds also has some really cute sandals and other accessories. Heck, they even have the cutest of raincoats in store, along with a couple of other items I've been wanting to own:

Overalls! For some strange reason I've been dying to own one although I can't find anything anywhere.

Polka dot pants! Yes, apart from a polka dot shirt I also want polka dot pants. And ain't the raincoat cute?

8ight Seconds is not Cheil's sole baby, however. Its signature brand is called Bean Pole and the company also has a high-end label called Hexa by Kuho. Meanwhile, 8ight Seconds is set to expand into China in 2014, and then the rest of the world.

For Samsung, at least there wouldn't be Apple tailing along in this arena.
