The Goose Station: Degustation at its finest

About two weeks ago My Bibe and I tried out The Goose Station at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. And to sum it all up, we loved it there!

Our yummy main course: chicken roulade

A play on the word "degustation," this restaurant does put the "fine" in fine dining. For us who don't really go out of our way to try out new restaurants and whatnot, this was one of those rare occasions when we made an exception. And boy were we so glad we did!

The restaurant is quite far from most establishments. In fact, there aren't many buildings around W Tower where The Goose Station is housed. With a minimalist and dimly-lit setup, the restaurant has only a few tables, with a section that closes out for intimate private functions. Despite its relatively small size, I can't help but notice that aside from the couple of waiters on the floor, there were about ten or fifteen dedicated staff working in the kitchen, which is a sign they do put premium on the food and on service.

Only a handful of tables here.

Lots of staff working in the kitchen alone.

With celebrity chef couple Rob and Sunshine Pengson at the helm, our expectations were naturally raised. But the food, everything in small portions, was just awesome. Although it took, like, more than ten minutes for them to start serving, everything followed smoothly right after. Here's a rundown of what our three-course dinner deal from Deal Grocer had in store for us (Apologies for the grainy photos since I only had a smartphone with me and the lighting was dim):

Welcome snack no. 1
After some bread and butter, we were served foie gras cones in this cute stainless steel stand. It had foie gras mousse in it, some caramel, and nuts. I loved how the sweetness of the caramel and nuts contrasted with the richness of the mousse and the crispness of the phyllo pastry cone. A winner!

Cute way to serve up appetizers.

It's both beautiful and yummy.

Welcome snacks no. 2
Then came this complimentary pair of tuna tartare and lumpiang hubad atop a kropek, both served on ceramic spoons. I don't really care much for raw fish except for sashimi but the tuna tartare was perfect. There was no trace of fish stench whatsoever.

Appetizer
It's just eggs benedict served in a cocktail glass but surprisingly, it was -- hands-down -- my favorite dish of the night. It was rich, yes, but I loved how the hollandaise foam and white truffle oil mixed perfectly with the poached egg, all while I was munching on the bacon tuile. It was absolutely divine that I wanted more! I still can't get over it.

Eggs benedict: hands-down my favorite.

Complimentary dish
We were given a complimentary dish of a scallop in some mildly spicy foam with a dollop of pumpkin puree, chick peas, mung beans, haricot, and capers in it. The capers give that subtle sour contrast to this rich dish. Again, loved it!

Main course
Our main was chicken roulade wrapped in bacon and stuffed with Italian sausage, pistachio and mung beans, served on a bed of haricots sitting on some sauce and pumpkin puree. On the side were a mushroom dumpling and shaved foie gras. Delectable!

Too pretty to eat? Nah, it's worth eating.

Dessert
Dessert was a deconstructed mixed berry cheesecake. There's the cream cheese, marshmallows, and the fresh berries (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry) in the middle, while the graham crumbs are lined up on the sides, with some sprinkled at the center. I love their take on the cheesecake here. It had just the right amount of sweetness to it and I appreciate the use of fresh berries (Where'd they get the raspberries and blackberries?).

I thought you said this was a cheesecake.

I can have this everyday.

Petit fours
As a parting gift, they gave us chocolate truffles, which we paired with coffee. As with the cheesecake, it had just the right amount of sweetness, which went in perfect harmony with the bitterness of the chocolate.

A bittersweet ending to a lovely dinner.

Great food, great service, The Goose Station is a definite must-try. It's a great place to impress a date or to just enjoy a shala moment with your friends. I don't see kids would fit right in the picture, however, unless you wanna start them young.

The restaurant is, without question, quite pricey, but it's all worth it. They offer multi-course meals at Php 2,500 and Php 1,500 per person, while items on their ala carte menu range from as low as Php 290 to as high as Php 1,300.

The Goose Station is open for dinner only, Mondays through Saturdays from 6 to 9:30pm. First seating is at 6pm and second seating is at around 8pm. I believe reservations are required and a smart casual dress code is enforced.

We had the chance at another dinner at The Goose Station. It was a longer dinner but it was a slightly different experience than this first one.

  6. I had a gift certificate I got from school and booked my parents to experience The Goose Station. My parents ate at the goose station last night, Dec. 29. 2012, according to them the ambiance was fair enough, but they hated the food except for the chocolate dessert. They just tried to finish the course, but is really unhappy with what they had. They had the goose station's signature menu but all they thought was maybe it was just a "TESTING MENU" so they avoided to complain, having in their minds that in might affect my school grades in global academy. But of course I was so ashamed! And the big reason why I am trying to complain now is not just because of the bad dining experience they had, but because of my mom is having LBM since last night up to now. That was so not nice and acceptable.

    1. i'm sorry they had a bad experience. they should've complained if they weren't happy, though. maybe you can write to the owners?

  7. Had the chance to try this restaurant and I must say that the 24 hour steak was heavenly. I also enjoyed the tuna tartare and the foie gras cones. Nothing special about the desserts.
