Premium craftsmanship in the spirit of the good old Australian outback

I recently learned that a friend will soon be migrating to Australia and I was, like, wow! Then suddenly images of red-sand deserts, beaches, kangaroos, and koalas came to mind. Sure the Sydney Opera House popped up somehow but my meandering mind always went back to the great outback. And then I found myself thinking of horses, checkered shirts, jeans, and boots.

Speaking of boots, and speaking of Australia, this country has some of the best boots in R.M. Williams -- classic, heavy-duty, and all-good leather.

The signature boot. Premium veal calf leather, traditional V-stitching under back boot tug, refined toe shape, extra-fine stitching around elastic, lightweight leather insole, rich sole stain, Signature Craftsman brass plaque on sole, handcrafted and signed by one of our top three boot makers.

The company boasts of a rich heritage, having been founded way back in 1932 by its namesake, Reginald Murray Williams. Staying true to the outback spirit, the man started designing and crafting footwear, clothing and other leather goods for people who lived and worked in the Australian outback. Today, his company's pieces are worn not just in the outback but in the city as well, and are already being exported to at least 15 other countries, including the U.K. and the U.S.

Their designs may not be of the outlandish, high-fashion type but they can definitely hold their own and look good nonetheless. Besides, nothing beats excellent craftsmanship -- from using the best leather, to the meticulously multi-layered sole, to the double-stitching and all. They even avoid using metal, so their boots are, as they say, "airport-friendly." And yes, they do offer made-to-order boots.

With its focus on quality, authenticity, and durability, it's not surprising that many have become avid fans of the R.M. Williams brand. I'm no expert on shoemaking but I'm convinced by their boots are a good buy.

Stuart. 28cm high work boot, water-resistant leather uppers, caramel plain rubber welt gristle sole, flat one piece composition heel.

Apart from boots, R.M. Williams also sells other leather footwear, men's and women's clothing, bags, belts and other leather accessories, and even saddles. They also have special sizes for bigger guys, so no one's left out. To this day, the company remains 100% Australian.
