Smartening up with a Pebble Steel

Image
Sleek box for the Pebble Steel. I use a smartphone in my attempts to smarten up the dumb in me. Apparently it's not enough and now I have a smartwatch, thanks to My Bibe. This is a long-delayed post, though. When smartwatch maker Pebble announced in January at the CES 2014 that they're releasing an update to the original Pebble watch--the Pebble Steel --My Bibe immediately got me one. Well, because it was on pre-order, and with free shipping to the Philippines to boot, we had to wait. And sometime first week of March, the watch finally arrived. (We actually kind of forgotten about it already.) For whatever reason, however, I only got to unbox it a couple of weeks later.

[Lookbook 04.15.2014] Summer cool

Image
Today was one of those days when at last I got to wear one of my purchases from probably December or January. Thanks to the unbearable summer heat this rather simple blue shirt has finally left my closet and seen the light of day.

Return to Moon Garden

Image
Just one of the beautiful lilies at Moon Garden, its petals ruffled by the wind. It was a return to one of our nice, quiet spots in Tagaytay two weekends ago, especially after all the humidity and chaos of Enchanted Kingdom where I got myself a funny hoodie . Although we've only been here once before--just last year actually--we loved Moon Garden, and I'm glad to see that practically nothing has changed since our first visit. Even the room rate was still at Php 2,990! Reading through my year-old review of Moon Garden , I think it's safe to say that everything I wrote there still stands. The room's the same, the service is the same, everything.

[Lookbook 04.11.2014] Urban wizard

Image
So this is what happens when an old wizard makes an attempt at going urban--he wears a hoodie. Haha! And of course he wears it with jeans and some rubber shoes, with a wrist watch to boot.

[Throwback (Travel) Thursday 04.10.2014] Braving Basilan

Image
Still couldn't reconcile Basilan's beauty with the terror that engulfs the island. The kid on the right seems just as puzzled, but with me. The mere mention of it almost immediately makes you think of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf. Basilan, after all, was where those kidnapped tourists from Dos Palmas Resort in 2001 were brought to and held captive for over a year (throughout that time frame some have escaped, others ransomed). Needless to say, a venture into Basilan is either an extremely far-fetched idea or a downright stupid one. Or maybe not.

Window shopping: Kenneth Cobonpue and Hive

Image
I usually go for clean lines and minimalist stuff but for some reason I'm liking this dainty piece of furniture right here.  A couple of my colleagues and I recently attended a general membership meeting for a professional organization (surprisingly I belong to one) at The Residences in Makati. We arrived way too early and looked at the shops around to while away time. We found ourselves outside Kenneth Cobonpue's showroom and were gawking at the pieces behind the glass windows.  We decided to enter.

[Throwback (Travel) Thursday 04.03.2014] Looking for black, we found brown in Tiwi, Albay

Image
A small neighborhood resides along this lovely stretch of beach in Bgy. Lourdes, Tiwi. My mind is always on some beach these days and yet my body is still pathetically holed up in the office. I thought about my early trips with My Bibe, back when we'd go to these far-flung areas with no advance bookings or anything. But it was fun, those days. Back in February 2005 we had one of those trips and Bicol was our destination. It was the first time I saw Mayon Volcano (yeah, poor me) and the butanding (whale sharks) of Donsol, Sorsogon. We wanted to be in some black sand beach for some reason. We tried Tabaco, a town a few kilometers away from the capital Legazpi City, but no one could point us to one. We tried the next town, Tiwi, and savored the magnificent views of Mayon and ricefields along the way.
