FRAGRANCE | L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme

Image
For weeks now I've been using L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme , my first taste of the Guerlain brand. The legendary French perfume house, acquired by LVMH in 1994, has a considerable history that dates back to 1828. As such, it has produced a long list of fragrances, a lot of which have become classic bestsellers. So it's quite a shame I've only tried them now.

FASHION | Fresh picks from East Dane's fashion director

Image
Just went through a new batch of items from online menswear shopping site East Dane that have been anointed "Editors' Pick." Quoting fashion director Jonathan Evans, he said "Right now, it's all about paring things down. Colors should be a little more muted; graphics, a bit more subtle." His choice picks are spot on and I'm sharing a few of these with you. Soulland Sideshow Bob Shirt What's not to love about a crisp white shirt? Add to that a huge yet never overpowering print and I'm loving this shirt even more.

Lazy Sunday. There was a soft drizzle at one point. Before I headed out I enjoyed some "me" time. Just me and the camera. And no one else.

FASHION | While it's cold, look ahead and think of the beach

Image
Never mind my flabby tummy here. Or my surgery scars. But aren't you excited for beach season yet? I know it's still winter in most countries but hey, let's all think ahead about having fun in the sun. And while you're at it, how about slowly building your beach wardrobe with swim shorts? And if you're not really particular about wearing pieces from last season, a lot of items are on sale! Clockwise from left:

LOOKBOOK | 19Jan2015: Dorky dork

This was last Monday after a short visit to Malabon and Caloocan--which to me, by the way, are already out of town trips. Here I was pondering on the inevitable: that our 5-day break from work was already coming to a close because Pope Francis had just left.

FASHION | Keep calm, keep warm

Though there's no such thing as winter in this part of the world, still we're enjoying some bit of cooler temperatures. I know the prospect of snow just looks so beautiful in photos and that in reality it can be quite the nuisance. But anyway, whether Elsa is still at it or whether the ice is already starting to melt, I think we can all agree that it's still fairly cold out there. Here are a few looks I've put together for you: The office guy You wear a shirt, you wear a tie, whatever. You wear an overcoat outdoors. You may be a bit hesitant to deviate from the sea of black, blue and gray but why not start with injecting a few pieces with a different color? Victor coat from Rag & Bone . Wool herringbone, cashmere collar. PS by Paul Smith Hawaiian girl print shirt. Yes, we're looking forward to summer. Silk knit tie from Drake's . Jake suite trousers from Theory . Slim-fit, lightweight, stretch-wool construction. Go brogues but a bit rogue

THROWBACK THURSDAY | 15Jan2015: World Youth Day '95

Image
Today Pope Francis arrives in Manila for a state and pastoral visit, bringing back memories from two decades ago when then Pope John Paul II came to the Philippines for World Youth Day. It was a slew of activities back then from January 10 through 15, 1995. And yes, I was there.

Another "What the eff is he doing?" look from one of our cats there. The other time it was our little girl Thordis watching from behind the glass door . God knows what these cats are really thinking.

What a short week it's going to be! Thanks to the visiting Pope Francis, our government has declared some special holidays while his Holiness is here. But that doesn't mean it's not going to be a hectic one. Nope. Not one bit.

LOOKBOOK | 08Jan2015: From bed to work

Yep, I had a feeling someone was watching me. The cat was probably wondering again what in the world I was doing. Anyway, yesterday's outfit was like Friday arrived a day earlier. Yes, it's very casual and I was really feeling the salmon pink color here.

LOOKBOOK | 06Jan2015: Me and the tree

Image
It's the second workday of the year and I still haven't recovered from the holidays. If it's any indication, apparently I still can't let go of our Christmas tree. I know, taking it down, along with all other Yuletide decor you've once so excitedly put up, can be a drag.

DINING | The Blackbird at the Nielson Tower

Image
The spiral staircase inside The Blackbird at the Nielson Tower. Last Christmas Day after driving home from Malabon, Kwittiegirl and I dropped by the Ayala Triangle for early dinner. After finding out our target restaurant had long been supplanted by a different one, we tried The Blackbird at the Nielson Tower  instead. For several months now what used to be the Filipinas Heritage Library--that in turn used to be the Manila International Air Terminal, or Nielson Airport, from the late 1930s to the late 1940s--is now a fancy restaurant. Yes, we've heard all the hype but we're not really the type who actively seek out new places to try. Nevertheless, at least we were finally able to try this one out. Architecture and ambiance Much to the relief of heritage enthusiasts and conservationists, The Blackbird has practically retained the old air terminal's Art Deco architecture. Except for a little sprucing up inside, it was more or less the same as I remembered when it wa

LOOKBOOK | 02Jan2015: Mr Slouchy Pants

My first outfit post of the year! I never really intended to do one but since I was bored out of my wits at the salon, I asked Kwittiegirl to take a few shots of me with my phone. Plus it was as if the chandelier and the red orange walls were urging me to get on at it.

A super late post for my last office lookbook post of 2014. By this time I'm still hung over the holidays while anxious at the same time that it's gonna be over real soon. Boo!
