LOOKBOOK | Pink and greenery

Image
I'm mostly a casual dresser, even at work. But I also like to wear a suit at times, though I always have to dress it down considering how casual our work environment is. I know it would be nice to go on full dandy and all but I guess I don't have the guts to do it consistently and not mind what everyone else around me is wearing. Anyway, here I am in another dressed-down army green suit .

LOOKBOOK | Mint fresh

Image
I don't think anyone would hate t-shirts. Be it a graphic print tee , a biker/rocker tee , a classic anime like Voltes V tee , or a cutesy character tee , there will always be a tee for everybody. Its print or design may have a lot to do with a t-shirt's appeal to someone, especially since simply pairing it with jeans, joggers, or shorts already makes for an outfit in the most convenient way possible. But there's also a lot to be said of its plain counterparts. Because there are no distracting or clashing prints whatsoever, a simple plain t-shirt offers the wearer a canvas on which to build a whole look. Of course it looks just as fine with jeans, joggers, or shorts, but it most certainly looks way better with more formal trousers than any printed tee would. A plain tee is simply more versatile.

LOOKBOOK | Cropped and quilted

Image
Okay, so I'm wearing my flower lapel pin too high here. My cluelessness is apparent. But anyway, let's talk cropped pants , which I really like. Slim silhouettes look good, no doubt, but roomier cuts prove to be just as great with the right cut.

FRAGRANCE | Dear John by Lush: Pretty decent and inexpensive

Image
Alas, not all expensive fragrances are good and not all cheap scents are bad! A fragrance's price point isn't always commensurate to quality, and I've had my share of disappointments with some pricier ones from well-known brands. But I try all sorts of stuff and am occasionally surprised to find some gems among the inexpensive lot. Take, for instance, Dear John from Lush , the cosmetic company I've always associated with soaps. Consistent with all things Lush, this cologne is packaged quite simplistically. But don't judge it from the bottle alone because Dear John is a wonderful scent.

DINING | LōLa Cafe+Bar: An underwhelming experience

Image
To drive all the way to Quezon City from Makati is a big deal for me, let alone to try out a restaurant there. But sometime during the Christmas holidays, I purposely did just that. Tucked away in a nice, quiet spot of Scout Lozano, LōLa Cafe+Bar isn't anything new. It's been around for several years now, an old house that's been converted into a restaurant. I know it's been quite a while since trying it but I felt I still had to write about it, so here goes.

LOOKBOOK | Pale shades

Image
It's usually all bright colors , florals, and tropical prints we see as the summer heat marches in. It's a good thing, no question, because they all look good under the sun. But whites,  pastels and other pale shades  also offer another option for keeping ourselves fresh-looking amid the heat. This white polo shirt with pastel blue accents I'm wearing is but one example.

LOOKBOOK | Matchy-matchy in shades of cerulean blue

Image
Yes, I know it's horrible: I deliberately went for a matchy-matchy getup. I know how overly color-coordinated outfits are often frowned upon but I went with it anyway. Whether I realized it too late or I was really aware of it from the start doesn't matter because I was matchy-matchy in cerulean blue . Blame it on the shoes.

DINING | Kitchen 1B: For the health-conscious but well-heeled

Image
I recently chanced upon Kitchen 1B in Makati's Legazpi Village, which, apparently has been in existence for more than two years now. Part of the Apartment 1B chain of restaurants, this one appeals to the health-conscious lot with organic and supposedly healthier dishes.

LOOKBOOK | Bladder break

Image
Ah, bathroom selfies . I know how these people today are often scorned for their vainglory but to each his own. Besides, I've been doing bathroom selfies long before smartphones came to be , back when camera phone resolutions weren't even a megapixel. I went into the restroom and there's no one else there. I see myself in the mirror, all alone against the white tiled walls, perfect contrast... and I thought, how about doing one now? Bam!

LOOKBOOK | Coattails in reverse

Image
Just wearing my signature lazy outfit here of pullover and pants. Inherently casual, especially how the pants are cuffed, I put on my usual spin of throwing a jacket over to dress things up a bit. In this case it's an asymmetrical blazer that's longer in the front. It's kind of like my coattails are in front. The last time I wore this blazer I used a necklace in place of a pocket square . This time, though, I sticked to, well, a good o'l pocket square.

DINING | Makansutra Hawkers: Perfect for food-tripping

Image
You may or may not have heard of Makansutra Hawkers in SM Megamall. The fact that I found myself there is quite unusual, what with me considering every other place outside Makati "out of town." It's essentially a food court but one that's dedicated to a host of different Asian street food. Makansutra may oft be mistaken for Singaporean food because it's based in Singapore but it's not as it also has stalls featuring dishes from Hong Kong, Malacca, and more. Interiors The food court itself sports a lively design with walls of bare concrete, sections of flooring from scrap wood (or at least they make it appear that way), sheets of corrugated plastic for ceiling, and a variety of designs for seating, made from a mix of metal tubing, iron drums, wood, and what-have-you. It sure has a hip vibe going on.

LOOKBOOK | Brocade in monochrome

Image
After a relatively short - but sweet - period of light chill, the mercury is rising once more. And so it's back to lightweight stuff that's appropriate for the tropics. I'm still wearing pullovers , though, like this one here, but it's the kind that's just enough to keep me warm while inside the office.
