FRAGRANCE | Room Service EDP by Vilhelm Parfumerie is nice but could be much better
Maybe it's just me but the name gives me the impression of something that's
soft and intimate, one that conjures up an image of yourself or of someone
else (or perhaps both) lazily curled up in the king-sized bed of a posh hotel
room. While there's some sliver of truth to it,
Room Service by Vilhelm Parfumerie isn't exactly like that for me.
Although I can't really pick out a single type of flower, the fragrance is
undeniably floral from the get-go. It's voluptuous, with a tiny dash of
sweetness emanating from the scent. There's an overarching sharpness, however,
which has that slightly juicy and inky character I would assume is blackberry.
It quickly rises to the top of the composition and drives the fragrance's
rather loud projection for its first couple of hours. Sadly, instead of simply
acting as an accent, like in
Creed's Silver Mountain Water, the sharp, inky accord becomes a little too much for comfort. To be fair,
though, it's not as screechy as
2022 Generation Homme by Stephane Humbert Lucas but it's still quite abrasive nonetheless.
Some watery green accents surface as the sharpness thankfully mellows—but not
for long. There's also a slight powderiness that emerges but its development
is rather stunted, no thanks to the blackberry. Even though the fragrance is
distinctly floral through and through, that constant, inky sharpness just mars
the scent for me. It clashes with the florals and everything else instead of
complementing them. For me, it takes away from the supposed softness and
intimacy of the scent. It would have likely been a different story had they
tempered the blackberry even just a bit.
Room Service smells clean but not exactly soapy clean. It doesn't give
off any fresh, out-of-the-shower vibes. It's more like a floral type of clean
with a light touch of sweetness and powder. The overall scent leans feminine
to me although ironically, the sharpness helps tip the scales towards unisex
territory. Longevity's fairly good at around six hours, give or take. Overall,
it's just okay for me but my wife likes it a lot. Try before you buy.
