FRAGRANCE | Poggio in Fiore EDP by La Collina Toscana: Pleasantly sweet florals for everyday

halfwhiteboy - La Collina Toscana Poggio in Fiore 01

It's been a little over four years already since I first (and last) wrote about a fragrance from La Collina Toscana. That frag was the aromatic, warm, and spicy beauty Rocca della Signoria. Although I believe this Italian house is long gone, my wife and I still managed to complete all six bottles from their Tuscany Reserve line. Today, I'm writing about Poggio in Fiore, whose bottle is marked by a pink ribbon running its sides and base.

The fragrance is dominated by sweet florals, led by frangipani and tiare, with hints of jasmine occasionally coming through. It smells clean, with occasional indolic whiffs early on. The vibe is light and dainty, marked by a carefree innocence—a happy scent, so to speak. It's akin to Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Love in its simplicity sans the spiciness. Although the florals develop a mild creaminess almost immediately, the scent remains light.

The florals are brushed with a very thin layer of caramel and vanilla. Other than its sweetness, the caramel's flavor is most noticeable in the first few minutes upon spraying before it gets lost in the whirlwind of petals. Even then, it's easy to miss. However, it does attempt a comeback later on but it never really gets to the level of prominence of caramels in gourmands like Casamorati Lira by Xerjoff. This is why I don't see Poggio in Fiore as a gourmand. Musk is likewise barely perceptible unless you sniff hard and really work your brain to isolate each individual note.

This fragrance is unassailably linear with generally good projection. While it never gets loud, it casts a pleasant scent bubble around me that remains noticeable for several hours. It does lean feminine because of the florals but I can comfortably wear it just the same. It's a veritable year-rounder for me and will probably suit any occasion imaginable. All in all, La Collina Toscana Poggio in Fiore is a solid and easy to like fragrance in my book.
