FRAGRANCE | A warm, aromatic, spicy affair with Rocca della Signoria EDP by La Collina Toscana

halfwhiteboy - Rocca della Signoria EDP by La Collina Toscana 01

Save for a few reviews on Fragrantica, I couldn't find any information, let alone a website, for La Collina Toscana. To my frustration, a brand of spices is what I get instead. Turns out this house is no more. Nevertheless I proceeded with my order from a fraghead based in Qatar who gets them there for cheap, and copped 3 of the 6 available EDPs from this house's Tuscany Reserve line. Rocca della Signoria is the first that I'm reviewing.

It was love at first spray. An unmistakable star anise note springs to life right at the onset. Compared to the star anise in YSL's Opium Pour Homme, it's way more prominent here and easily detectable. Yet this take remains light and airy, with a smoky but equally light incense swirling around, resulting in a wonderful, aromatic scent.

As the fragrance develops, a layer of warm, vanillic sweetness tiptoes its way into the scene - this as the star anise and incense combo slowly makes its way out. A woody accord joins in, but not the dry and sharp type. At some point it even becomes a little oily, or better yet, creamy, before it turns more woody again. The scent keeps on changing and I'm enjoying it.

Rocca della Signoria creates a lovely scent cloud around you for hours. It's not overbearing unless perhaps you douse yourself in it. Eventually it weakens but the scent itself can last you the whole day - and maybe a little more. At this stage what remains is a sweet base with woody nuances and faint traces of that spice that was so strong in the beginning.

All in all this is a very solid fragrance. Too bad it's discontinued. It's a pretty safe scent for me, and because of how cheap it is, it could also be a safe blind buy. The bottles from this collection are all the same, and the only way to distinguish which is which is the colored ribbon bearing the name of the fragrance glued along the sides, each one with a dedicated color. This one's yellow. If you can find one, go get it.
