Some surprise guests at home

Last Friday night (Katy Perry's song is starting to play in my head), we were treated to a pleasant surprise when we got home. Just as I was done parking the car, two kittens, presumably strays, came into view from across the street.

Giddy at such a sight, I motioned for them to come. They were hesitant, understandably, but after patient coaxing I sort of gained the trust of one, who came really close to me. The other one also came near but skirted around to avoid any direct contact with us. Already, I saw two different personalities.

My Bibe and I each managed to grab one kitten before I went inside the house to get them some cat food. It didn't take long before we decided to let them inside the house even for a few minutes. Both were just so adorable with their cute meows, which startled our own cats. Realizing where the meows were coming from and what we brought into the house, they hissed and growled. Not surprisingly, they were upset (and they made sure to blog about it here). Oh cats, why can't you just all get along like dogs?

The poor kittens were so hungry. I felt bad because we couldn't afford to adopt them and I know they'll be living a hard life outside. Seems that the only way I can help them right now is to feed them whenever possible. It's hard not to fall in love with them, especially with this sweetie right here:

She's a girl and she was the one who first "trusted" us. Between the two she was the more quiet, mild-mannered and well-behaved one. The other kitten was a boy, and he reminded us so much of Foreman when he was still a baby. His restless nature and his stare were unmistakably so Foreman.

As for our cats, Kwittie Boy and Foreman, I guess the "intrusion" of some unwanted guests instantly activated their feline instincts, hence, the hissing and the growling. I always tell them off whenever they don't finish their food (which is almost everyday), that they're lucky, that a lot of cats on the streets have nothing to eat, and that the least they could do was, well, finish their food. So now, I added, I'm teaching you to do some charity work for the less fortunate (cats). Their reaction?

I think it's safe to assume that everything fell on deaf ears. On four deaf ears.

Meanwhile, we had to return the kittens outside before we fall in love with them completely, which would only make separation painful. We also gave them some more cat food to go, which I carefully placed right outside the gate. Besides, their mom was probably already looking for them.

Bye, kitties! Hope to see you again soon.

  1. Good thing the kittens seem to be of age :o If you touch kittens before they develop their own scent, the mother cat will reject the kittens and refuse to feed/nurse them. D: But they're just so adorable and your cats look quite passively aggressive haha. Thanks for another interesting post!
