FRAGRANCE | Tom Ford Neroli Portofino EDP: A baby cologne for grown-ups

halfwhiteboy - Tom Ford Neroli Portofino EDP

The intensifying heat of late had me reaching out more for freshies. Now it's one of those distinctly blue bottles from Tom Ford's Private Blend line. The hue alone stands apart from the predominantly dark-colored flacons of the house, evocative of something that clearly says fresh.

Right off the bat Neroli Portofino reminds me of Nenuco, the baby cologne, only smoother and a little longer-lasting. But I love it, its purity and freshness that's such a mood lifter. Citruses dominate the opening and linger for several minutes before giving way to a very clean mix of white florals. It's a people-pleaser in its simplicity and I find it totally unisex.

Although not as long-lasting as other Private Blend offerings, I still catch whiffs of it in the afternoon. Projection is mostly soft but gets a little boost with some heat, so it's perfect for warm weather. Still, resprays will be needed.

While it's a very lovable fragrance, I understand how some people despise it for how much it costs, that it's too simple, that it doesn't justify its rather hefty price tag, etc. Of course it's a valid consideration but price point aside, I think Neroli Portofino is still quite a good scent. It smells like baby cologne, yes, but for grown-ups. But then what's stopping you from using it on your baby?

  1. Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino is a fresh, citrusy scent that reminds me of Nenuco baby cologne, but smoother and more long-lasting. It’s clean, unisex, and perfect for warm weather, though not as long-lasting as other Private Blend fragrances. While pricey, it’s still a great, sophisticated option. If you like fresh scents, you might also enjoy classic oud agarwood.
