DINING | ICYMI (Like I did): Siargao's famous pizza is now in Poblacion, Makati

We discovered Kermit Manila by chance while driving around Poblacion in Makati, looking for a place to eat at past ten in the evening. Turns out it's the same Kermit from Siargao that's known for serving great pizza. Kermit wasn't around yet when I first—and last—visited the island in 2002 although I've heard of them at least. So seeing them in Poblacion was a welcome surprise, and I was more than eager to give the restaurant a try.

Interiors and ambiance
Kermit Manila is a casual dining (and drinking) place, which somehow echoes the laid-back, surfer's paradise atmosphere of the Siargao original (in my mind at least). It's also very similar to the vibe shared by most Poblacion haunts, so Kermit fits just right in. Curiously, though, it's located in a rather quiet part of Poblacion, far from all the chaos of the bars and night spots that have defined this part of Makati as a hip and happening place.

The restaurant is characterized by bare concrete, brick accent walls, murals, and other wooden trappings. The ground floor houses an open-air bar while the second level features an air-conditioned section with more conventional seating options for dining. The lighting isn't too bright, which is consistent with the overall vibe of the place. It can get really noisy, however, especially at night.

The food and staff service
As I've only been here once, my experience in this area is very limited. We only had pizza and a burrata salad that night. I'll just have to update this post every time I get to visit and try new stuff. Nevertheless, the pizza was good. I think it was Daku (Php 450) that we ordered, which had tomatoes, some mushroom, and what I've read is a Kermit favorite–parma ham. The crust is just about right to my liking, too.

The burrata salad, on the other hand, was a disappointment. It was totally uninspired. The burrata cheese itself was meh and a tad too runny; definitely not their strong suit. I'd say stick to Gino's Brick Oven Pizza for any burrata cravings. Next time, though, I'm gonna have to try their pasta.

Service was pretty much fine and serving time was just about right. Nothing extraordinarily good or bad here. Kermit Manila also sells some merch at the second floor, by the way.

In hindsight
Despite my little burrata snag, I'd say Kermit Manila is still worth trying. After all, who doesn't like pizza? And that it's also a great place for drinks is merely icing on the cake really.

Open from 5pm to 1am, Kermit Manila is located at 4636 Molina Street in Poblacion, Makati City.
