FRAGRANCE | Cigar EDT by Remy Latour: A cheapie you may not want to snub

Remy Latour Cigar is an often overlooked frag, or at least I think it is. Given its relatively tacky but arguably very fun presentation, it's easy to dismiss. But I like how the cap slides snugly into place. Talking about tacky and fun, those cigar-shaped bottles from Cuba Paris also come to mind. However, unlike Cuba, or Cuba Blue at least—which is the only one I have tried from the line so far—Cigar is superior as far as quality goes.

Tobacco is expected but it isn't thick and dark, softened just about right by citruses and some juicy, fruity accord. The scent is bright and fresh but very manly. There's a bit of spiciness and wood entering the picture after a few minutes, with patchouli coming to the fore as the citruses exit, blending nicely with the fruity-sweet tobacco.

The scent is generally dry despite the citrusy-fruity opening and becomes even drier as it progresses. While I don't have any problem wearing tobacco-based fragrances—which are mostly leaning on heavy—I think most people will find Cigar easy to wear. It's primarily because of the light-handed approach to the tobacco, in a way like how it's treated in Cuir Cuba Intense by Parfums Nicolaï and in Rogue Perfumery's Tabac Vert.

With generous sprays, I get moderate projection for around two or so hours before the scent mellows. But my, does it last! It may not be a monster but it sure has legs, and it gets reignited by body heat even after several hours. All said, Cigar is one cheapie that you may not want to snub outright.
