Chef Sau's Vuco Fye.

I need to post something apart from fragrances since it's all I've been writing about lately. Without any travel or any drive for OOTDs, I guess food would sound good. And of course it's food via delivery.

Last June (yes, it's been 2 months), we sunk our teeth on two different pies from Chef Sau Del Rosario after maybe a week of waiting since placing our order. Yes, it's not some ready-made goodie you can just have delivered to you on a whim, as everything is pre-ordered. We got his versions of the classic buko pie and egg pie, which he playfully calls Vuco Fye and Heg Fye, respectively.

Now that's one filling slice of pie!

The Vuco Fye (Php 675) is a few inches thick and is a joy to look at. Slicing into the pastry reveals several layers of fresh coconut meat and a soft but compact custard filling with just the right amount of sweetness. And it tastes as good as it looks! I love how generous the amount of coconut is in the pie and how it does not resort to extenders to make up the filling, unlike many a commercially available buko pie.

The crust's upper ring can be a little thick but it allows you a bit of a crunch to munch on. This effectively balances off all the coconut and custard so you won't end up being sick of it. Instead, you'll probably want more. Although different of course, it calls to mind The Original Buko Pie from Los Baños because of the sheer amount of coconut stuffed into the filling. And that's a good thing.

The Heg Fye looks so fluffy.

Care for a slice?

The Heg Fye (Php 575) also looks really good. It looks so fluffy, I feel like pressing my fingers over it. However, I find it lacking in flavor. The consistency is nice and silky but I guess I'm just missing that rich egg flavor. I don't want to sound mean but it tastes a little bland. Sorry.

While I won't be having any more of that egg pie again, I recommend trying the Vuco Fye, though. You'll love it.
