FRAGRANCE | Perles de Lalique EDP: A beautifully dry rose and patchouli scent
Perles de Lalique is one of those fragrances marketed to women but are so unisex to my nose. The frosted bottle revels in its simplicity, which is far from the avant-garde creations of the renowned glass-making house. But it's sturdy and relatively heavy, and as such serves its purpose. The fragrance itself doesn't cost much.
A fresh and sweet rose blooms right upon first spray. It's not deep or rich like a typical red rose but more like pink because there's a particular lightness to it. It's more along the lines of Cabotine Rose by Parfums Gres than Amouage Lyric Woman. But that's my impression.
There's a fleeting, mild sharpness in the opening before a nice and clean woody patchouli comes to the fore, momentarily derailing the rose. But the rose rebounds and reclaims its dominance in no time. There's also something markedly cool to the nose but which I can't place. Either way, it brings another pleasing dimension to the scent, enhancing its lightness. Then the rose and patchouli alternate in coming out on top, with that cool accord remaining constant.
The scent lasts for a few hours but is generally modest in its projection, peaking in its first two before declining in strength. The rose and patch combo endures, eventually settling into something a tad warmer than when it started. Perles de Lalique is a fairly dry scent, making it very suitable for warm weather. It can be both casual and formal, so it's quite versatile. I don't see it talked about much but for me it's something that merits attention.
