FRAGRANCE | Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas EDP by Disney: Yes, it's a wearable fragrance

halfwhiteboy - The Nightmare Before Christmas EDP 01

Oh yeah, who knew Disney actually released a fragrance after Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas? And in the likeness of Jack Skellington at that! The bottle is just so cute, it literally puts a smile on my face. I also love the coffin-shaped box and the whole purple motif, which complement the theme perfectly. Honestly, I got if for the bottle and didn't care about what the scent would be like at all. But really, how does it smell?

Simply put, there's nothing Halloween or Christmas about the scent. Forget what Fragrantica says because I don't get any of the notes listed. While fire and blood sound interesting, this is Disney after all. If you want blood, Amouage Opus X would perhaps be your closest bet. (You can also check out my 2021 list of suggested fragrances for Halloween.)

The Nightmare Before Christmas opens with a sweetish and citrusy top. For the price, the citrus is surprisingly not sharp at all, its edges perfectly rounded. It's pleasant, aromatic, and fresh. A woody base is soon revealed but it's not very defined to really be noticed. Nonetheless, it lends the composition some much-needed body. The citrus later lifts off but its fresh and aromatic character remains—up until the scent dies. And that's about it.

Yeah, it's nice but a little "generic," in my opinion. I must also make myself clear that there's nothing premium about how the fragrance smells. Moreover, don't expect much about performance. It's a cheap frag after all but like I said, the bottle's just so much fun. And for that alone, I'm happy.
