TRAVEL | Aloguinsan's Baluarte Park

Image
"Walang forever," which translates to "There's no forever," a popular Filipino expression on failed romantic relationships, often said in jest and usually by those who aren't in any relationship. Parks are seldom a big thing in the Philippines, and it's quite sad that we don't have much of these green public spaces around. People instead go to malls or play on the streets--basketball, badminton, and all sorts of games, you name it--disrupting traffic and posing a lot of dangers in the process. So it was a pleasure for us when we were in Aloguinsan , Cebu to walk amid a landscaped, hilly spot right next to the sea, and with really tall trees towering over us. Built around the ruins of a baluarte , or fortress, that was used as defense against marauding Moro pirates during Spanish colonial times,  Baluarte Park  is something to be appreciated.

TRAVEL | The Farmhouse in Aloguinsan

Part of the so-called "full tour" of the Bojo River cruise , The Farmhouse in Aloguinsan is a small-scale organic farm where we were served our snacks. Its couple of hundred square-meter area is mainly devoted to growing vegetables, a few livestock, and some fish.

Even with overcast skies, the Bojo River's beautiful hues shine through. Ever since Kwittiegirl showed me photos of Aloguinsan from her trip there nearly three years ago, I've always wanted to visit this sleepy little town in Southern Cebu. Time may have passed but I'm glad that I was finally able to earlier this month. We stayed at Lunhaw Farm Resort and planned on taking it easy while checking out what this town had to offer. The Bojo River Cruise , of course, was on top of our list.

The entrance to the resort's lobby and common area. The napping dog is Oniol (or Onyol; I don't know how it's spelled). Aloguinsan may not ring a bell to most people but this sleepy town in Southern Cebu is slowly but steadily building up its reputation as a prime eco-tourism site, thanks to its popular  Bojo River Cruise . We spent a good two nights there and stayed at this lovely place called Lunhaw Farm Resort . Here's a rundown of our experience there.

The simplicity and laid-back charm of Aloguinsan, Cebu

My Bibe's short work-related trip to the southern part of Cebu province last month netted her a lot of really nice Instagram photos that had me exclaiming "I wish I was there." They visited a couple of towns and dropped by a couple more on their drive back to Cebu City. This may just be a second-hand account but it's something I simply want to share. In Aloguinsan they can teach you basic banig weaving. Their first stop was Aloguinsan , a small fourth-class municapality about 59 km southwest of Cebu City. It's an old town, dating back to Spanish colonial times, with a watchtower atop a hill as testament that this place has had its own share of history.
