FRAGRANCE | Eau de Jade EDP by Giorgio Armani: An overpriced cologne that smells and performs like a cologne

halfwhiteboy - Armani Privé Eau de Jade 01

Marketed by Armani as a reinterpretation of eau de cologne, Eau de Jade sure has the hallmarks of a classic cologne, only in eau de parfum concentration. I get a crisp, bitter citrus right at the onset. Zesty and bright, the scent is brightened up even further by a mild, peppery sharpness; definitely clean and refreshing. However, unlike Tom Ford Neroli Portofino, another cologne-esque EDP, Eau de Jade has little to no sweetness.

A mild, green undertone courses through the scent, adding a tiny bit of complexity to the composition. The spiced-up, citrusy zing softens after several minutes, hastily revealing a soft, white musk at the base. The citrus flavor is still around but in a considerably weakened state. I'm digging the quiet fluffiness of the musk, though. It's like a plush blanket you'd love to snuggle in on a cold rainy day. While I like the contrast between the perky citrus opening and this cozy, soft drydown, the hurried transition can make it a bit jarring. Still, it's an overall nice and inoffensive scent; unisex and easy to wear.

Since it's released under the Armani Privé line, Eau de Jade is of course ridiculously priced. Factor in its rather simple scent structure and muted performance (much like Pierre de Lune actually), and you'll question whether it's even worth copping.
