FRAGRANCE | Eight Wolves Cologne by Sparrow: A surprisingly decent homegrown cheapie

halfwhiteboy - Eight Wolves Cologne by Sparrow

In a previous post I wrote about a new personal discovery in Eight Wolves, a homegrown brand that offers pomades and other men's grooming products. Predictably enough, I went home with their cologne, a co-branded effort with another local brand, Sparrow.

Let me start by saying how inexpensive Eight Wolves Cologne by Sparrow is. I got it (a 100 ml bottle) for only Php 350, and it's even cheaper on their website! Other than its cool label, there's not much else to its packaging. But a brown plastic bottle should be the least of our concerns, I think, given its really low price.

The scent itself is no joke. It has a nice, classic, barbershop-y feel to it. There's a refreshing herbal accord that's not entirely green, with something more akin to roots, if that makes any sense. Unlike some cheapies, this one doesn't sting the nostrils when first sprayed. It's pleasant right from the start, with modest projection in its first hour or two. The cologne can last for about half a day or more, mostly as a skin scent but with random bursts wafting around. At this stage you can sense up close a light, woody base, slightly dusty but still beautiful.

In terms of scent profile, I think it can compete with some other colognes in the market. Considering the price, there's no point holding back on the sprayer. By all means just respray as you please. That said, Eight Wolves Cologne by Sparrow is a pretty decent, masculine fragrance that's worth buying. Just skip the trying part and give it a shot, and support our local brands in the process.
