FRAGRANCE | Jo Malone Cade & Cedarwood Cologne: Finally, a Jo Malone that I like!

halfwhiteboy - Cade & Cedarwood Cologne by Jo Malone

I haven't quite gotten along with Jo Malone. I mean, I've made several attempts before but each visit to any of their stores results in me having a mild headache from all the sniffing. Enter Cade & Cedarwood Cologne and now I think I found something that works for me.

Cade & Cedarwood is one of two fragrances we got from Jo Malone's Wild Flowers & Weeds Collection, which was released just this year (the other one is Hemlock & Bergamot). Let me start by saying how I appreciate the presentation on this one and on the rest of the colognes in this collection. The bottle per se is pretty basic but the painting-style labeling around it is really nice. The complimentary tin box packaging for getting two bottles was a plus.

Cade & Cedarwood is a bright, balsamic, woody scent with a light and fresh opening, almost citrusy even if there aren't any such notes listed. As the zing fades, its woody characteristics become more evident. The wood isn't dry or sharp, nor is it intense. It's light, almost like pencil shavings, and I love it. I'm reminded of Diptyque Tam Dao except that this one's lighter. There's just enough resinous sweetness coating the wood, maintaining a nice balance there so as to keep the fragrance still light and vibrant overall.

Personally I find Cade & Cedarwood a bit expensive for a cologne (about Php 4,100 for a 30ml bottle). However, I'm quite happy with its performance - decent projection and moderate longevity. I get this lovely scent cloud surrounding me for a good few hours before I feel any need for a respray, which is very unlike my rather disappointing experience with Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Cologne. Moreover, it's a good, friendly scent that's almost a year-rounder and best suited for daytime wear. Price consideration aside, it's worth a try.
