FRAGRANCE | Citrus Vetiver EDP by ScentSmith Perfumery: A nice and sweet misnomer
In less than a year local brand ScentSmith Perfumery has churned out a little over twenty fragrances already, provided my counting is right. Citrus Vetiver, marketed under their unisex category, was one of our first purchases when they were still a fairly new shop at Greenbelt 5.
This EDP features a heady, sweet floral with a very light, green undertone. A squeeze of citrus accompanies the opening but the sweetness is already palpable. ScentSmith, I've observed, has a penchant for ambery sweetness, something that figures in a lot of their fragrances in varying degrees. It's in Grapefruit Amber (of course) and in Pink Pepper Leather, which, for all its sharp spiciness, still has that familiar, warm, sweet base.
Make no mistake, Citrus Vetiver is a nice scent, pleasing to the nose, but the vetiver is unfortunately lost in the blend. The citrus, too. Because both notes are headlining this release, I was expecting them to be at the forefront of its scent profile. I get no dry, lemony-woody earthiness at all and the citrus is shortlived. A misnomer in my opinion.
Nevertheless, this fragrance is nice to have. It's cheap but its performance cannot be discounted - moderate projection and longevity overall. Very wearable, it suits most settings. However, if you're looking for a true vetiver scent, or something built around its earthy glory, then Citrus Vetiver just doesn't fit the bill.
