FRAGRANCE | ScentSmith Perfumery introduces 6 new scents
New stuff from ScentSmith Perfumery
Homegrown brand ScentSmith Perfumery just launched half a dozen new fragrances to add to their already extensive line of eaux de parfum, room scents, toiletries, and more. Of the 6 new EDPs, 2 are for the ladies, 1 for the guys, while 3 are labeled as unisex. Here are my first impressions.
Cedar Leather
This looks like a potential hit with the guys, just like Pink Pepper Leather. This fragrance has a very noticeable leather note, raw and very masculine, but softened by a tiny amount of sweetness and a little smokiness. About half an hour later the cedar slowly comes to the fore as the leather makes its gradual exit. And once every shred of leather is gone, Cedar Leather settles into a nice, creamy cedar base, along with some sandalwood perhaps. In the air, though, it's mostly a dry and straightforward woody scent. Decent projection. Lovely.
Cashmeran Ginger
One marked as for the ladies but which to me is perfectly unisex, Cashmeran Ginger is a mildly spicy scent with woody nuances and some tea, all resting on a honeyed, vanillic sweet base. I'm missing much of the ginger here, however. In fact, it's more tea than ginger. While it isn't necessarily a bad thing, I was pining for ginger. The scent itself is somewhere between heavy and airy, with soft to moderate projection overall. Not bad.
Ylang Ylang Coconut
Another one for the ladies, the coconut in this one is most pronounced in the opening, softening as it goes along. It's nice and creamy but isn't overly so, which makes it perfectly wearable all year round. Later the ylang-ylang joins in, accompanied by some white florals that altogether rest atop a sweet base. But like the coconut, the florals aren't overbearing, arguably making Ilang Ilang Coconut unisex in my opinion, and projecting just about right. Definitely worth trying.
Pine Vanilla
This one strikes just the right balance between coniferous and sweet, neither of which tries to outdo the other. There's some citruses in the opening but they don't stay long. Overall Pine Vanilla is a pleasant, easy-to-wear fragrance for practically any day. Projection is on the softer side. Nice.
Juniper Berry Fir
Juniper Berry Fir opens fresh with hints of citruses. It's bright and pleasant. 30 minutes or so later something dry and hay-like appears. And I'm liking it, probably because it's a welcome departure from yet another predictable sweet base. Although there's some sweetness, it isn't much to distract from the overall scent profile. Decent projection and worth a try.
Wheat Grapefruit
This is primarily a citrus fragrance, with the grapefruit lovingly dominating the scent. I'm not a fan of grapefruit as a fruit because I'm put off by the sourness and thankfully it isn't as such here. I'm enjoying it in fact. Half an hour or so later the dryness of the wheat starts coming through. It's an interesting facet and it works wonderfully with the grapefruit that's now starting to mellow. With moderate projection overall, Wheat Grapefruit is a strong like for me.
**********************
Much like basically everything in its arsenal, ScentSmith Perfumery's new releases are easily likable. They may not be groundbreaking but there's almost certainly something that would appeal to you. And their EDPs now have boxes! We got Cedar Leather, Cashmeran Ginger, and Ylang Ylang Coconut, although I know we may end up getting some other stuff at another time.
ScentSmith's EDPs are still priced at Php 1,198 for a 100ml bottle. You can check out their stores at Greenbelt 5, Robinsons Manila, and SM Megamall. They'll also be opening two more stores in the BGC area soon.
