FRAGRANCE | Joop! Nighflight EDT: A forgotten freshie
I'm not sure if it's still in production today but Joop! Nightflight hails from the 90s, a time when the scent trend shifted away from the powerhouse persona of the previous decade and saw the rise of aquatics. Although still carrying the DNA of the original Joop! Homme, Nighflight does have a sort of aquatic vibe going on.
The fragrance has a citric opening that I can't quite place. I've read it's supposedly pineapple although I don't get any. It's probably lost in the piercing sharpness. Thankfully some lavender follows shortly, supported by a nondescript green accord in the background. Together they help temper the sharpness, working towards rounding the scent out.
While the citruses and lavender do their thing, I get a light creaminess bubbling under. I think it's almond although it's not as pronounced as in Tom Ford Fucking Fabulous or Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Cologne. It then starts coming forward once the acidity relaxes. I also get a sweet and slightly burnt smell from tonka later on.
Nightflight doesn't project as much as Joop! Homme from my skin but it's noticeable—and it lasts. I don't find it particularly complex but it's easy on the nose and therefore likeable. I think it can suit any age and is most apt for warmer times of the year. To be honest, I don't really find it that covetable of a frag but if you're into freshies and aquatics, then Nightflight may be something for you to try.
