FRAGRANCE | This is Her! EDP by Zadig & Voltaire: This is pure gourmand joy!

While obviously marketed as a women's fragrance, for me Zadig & Voltaire's This is Her! is a very unisex gourmand right off the bat. If men can comfortably wear cotton candy scents like Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Baccarat Rouge 540, I don't see why spraying on something redolent of marshmallows would be any problem then.

Yes, this fragrance reminds me a lot of soft and fluffy marshmallows. It's the first thought that came to me when I tried it. It's sweet but not sickening. For one, there's a peppery sharpness that keeps the sugar in check, so the result is rather light and a bit airy, which runs contrary to the thick and heavy feel most sweet scents tend to be. This makes This is Her! wearable even in summer.

On me this is very linear, its sweet but light creaminess going on for hours and with the sharpness never leaving its side. It projects really well, too. Its strength may understandably wane after a while but its staying power cannot be discounted, surrounding you with this delectable cloud of goodness for hours on end.

I also like the bottle with its pretty cool cracked design. All in all, This is Her! is a very solid fragrance. It may offer little in terms of development and complexity but it more than makes up for it with its performance. Definitely a must-try.

Looking oh, so dignified here. Although the celebrations are normally concentrated in elementary schools, August is Buwan ng Wika (Language Month) in the Philippines. Two years ago when we first held this event, I found myself wearing an ethnic-designed shirt with a malong . This year I decided on a Barong Tagalog , considered our national formal wear for men. But no one wants to go all formal on a Friday, so I wore my Barong Tagalog with sneakers . I thought, if a full-on suit works just fine with sneakers, a barong would be just as perfect with this type of footwear.

FRAGRANCE | Green Cedar EDT by Bench: An environmentally-conscious offering from the Philippines' premier retail brand

A few weeks ago, I found myself wandering inside Bench Powerplant Mall. And what else would catch my eye but two fragrances by their lonesome twosome, positioned far away from the rest of the brand's scent offerings. They're Basil & Neroli and Green Cedar , both EDTs and part of the  Bench Better Made line . The frags are purported to be vegan and cruelty-free. They come in 125ml dark brown glass bottles and brown paper cylindrical boxes. Nice packaging there except for the cheap, plastic cap. No big deal, though, since they're just Php 428 apiece.

FRAGRANCE | Rajo Uno EDT by Bench: An inexpensive local gem

Philippine retail giant Bench has been many a high schooler's go-to shop for cheap colognes, myself included. And even during my college years, Bench has remained a staple. I remember  Bench Ei8ht was very popular with many people back then although my favorites were their body sprays Cielo and L'Amoureux . Through the years their roster of fragrances has only grown by leaps and bounds, with a lot of them made in collaboration with celebrities and fashion designers like Rajo Laurel .
