FRAGRANCE | Bracken Woman EDP by Amouage is very green but approachable

After writing about Amouage Bracken Man, I thought about revisiting its female counterpart, which we've had way before copping a bottle of the former. If the paisley-like artwork of stylized flowers and ferns on the box is any indication, Amouage Bracken Woman promises to also be a green treat much like Bracken Man.

In contrast to the clear bottles of the men's fragrances from The Midnight Flower Collection, the women's offerings sport opaque flacons in bright colors. The box also follows the men's horizontal orientation except that it's more squarish in keeping up with the bottle's boxier design.

Having been named after a fern, the fragrance does not disappoint with its greenness. There's an herbal quality to it that gives it a cool and fresh feel without being minty. A fruity accord is also present in the opening, which I suppose tempers the greenness and prevents it from being bitter. Although I wouldn't mind bitter. For one, I pretty much enjoy Sisley's Eau de Campagne, which is really bitter and vegetal. Bracken Woman, on the other hand, is much friendlier and more rounded.

The fragrance also features a floral side, along with a mild sweetness coming through, blending nicely with all the green. What I didn't expect is a transparent, soapy character slowly emerging moments later, which on my skin, stays well into the drydown. The fresh, fruity green is still present, though, with the floral sweetness steadily gaining strength but judiciously stopping itself from becoming overpowering. The result is a heady mix that's still light, fresh, and clean.

Projection is typical Amouage, and you won't be disappointed either with its longevity. Despite being marketed to women, I think it's easy to wear for a guy. No need to worry about its floral aspect because it's relatively subdued. I find it to be a year-rounder although methinks it's best worn during daytime. All said, Bracken Woman is a good buy with it's fairly unique scent profile and excellent performance. It is expensive, yes, but you can always hunt for a bargain somewhere.
