FRAGRANCE | Ishtar EDT by Rogue Perfumery gives some light and fresh church feels
A few months ago I added Ishtar by Rogue Perfumery to my roster of incense-based fragrances. I'm really loving this indie house ever since I sampled the old-school oakmoss beauty that is Chypre-Siam along with two others a year ago. The brand's presentation isn't really anything to write about although I'm digging the iridescent label on Ishtar here.
With many ways to approach incense, Manuel Cross, the perfumer, opted for a bright and fresh take on the ingredient here. Its inherent smokiness is evident but is kept really light, maintaining a churchy vibe similar to Jovoy's La Liturgie des Heures, only much airier. There's not much that distracts from the incense. Even the mild sweetness, which is almost fruity in character, and brushed with some light floral, only work to support and further highlight it.
The scent is practically linear, mostly modest in its projection, and is quite long-lasting. For me it's very pleasant and easy to wear although I know that that church vibe won't be to everyone's liking no matter how dialed-down it is compared to La Liturgie. In the realm of incense-centric fragrances, it's good but it isn't particularly unique. However, if you do dig this fragrant resin, then Ishtar might be something for you to try.
