FRAGRANCE | Figment Woman EDP by Amouage: A white floral explosion from start to finish
From the get-go, Amouage Figment Woman is an enormous explosion of
white florals and I'm pretty sure it's not just a figment of my imagination.
It's a smorgasbord of flowers thrown in together, with gardenia the only one I
can clearly identify out of familiarity. And maybe
tuberose. The resulting scent is strong and heady but it's basically a linear affair
throughout.
The florals just lord it over, unapologetic in brandishing their collective,
intoxicating aroma. Instead of parading their individual scent properties,
they take on a singular, creamy character that's thick but delectably smooth.
Because the fragrance carries some weight as a result, it's not ideal for use
in high heat, more so since it's loud and it carries on for a couple more
hours before eventually waning.
It's probably easy to dismiss Figment Woman as simply a floral bomb because
it's practically what's most noticeable in the air. However, underneath all
the petals are a mild spiciness and an earthy accord underpinning the scent.
Unlike in
Diptyque Florabellio, where the added salt, spice, and herbs are more pronounced, the approach
here is nuanced but enough to temper the creaminess and keep it from being
cloying.
A departure from most Amouage creations with distinct progressions,
Figment Woman decides instead to blast a monotonous chord a la Hans
Zimmer's score for Inception. It's not a bad thing per se that it chose a
linear direction but for some people, or at least on certain occasions, it can
be a tad boring. For me, however, it's still a beautiful and elegant blend
worth sampling. The gorgeously iridescent bottle and box design are but a
plus.
