FRAGRANCE | Florabellio EDT by Diptyque: Uncanny in its beauty
This is a relatively strange one. But coming from Diptyque, which released that cumin bomb of a fragrance in L'Autre, I'm not surprised. In fact, Florabellio appears pretty normal next to it.
This opens with a salty floral, followed shortly by something herbal and spicy. It's kind of odd but I like it for some reason. The salt and floral combination calls to mind Un Jardin Sur La Lagune by Hermès but bolder, louder. And while La Lagune is lighter and more dialed back, this one feels much thicker. Meanwhile, there's a dry and dusty kind of powdery feel to the herbal accord that only adds up to the fragrance's strange appeal.
As the scent progresses, a creamy facet of the florals start showing in the background, with the volume gradually increasing by the minute. Because of this creaminess, I can't call Florabellio fresh. There's just a wee bit of weight to it although it's not entirely heavy, which I think makes it wearable in both warm (but not too much) and colder temperatures.
The spicy-herbal character is still there in the drydown, providing a rather uncanny contrast to the creaminess of the florals. Some of the salt has already melted by now but it has already imparted its own flavor into the overall scent profile. Projection is generally moderate but with a relatively strong start that lasts for about an hour or two. Longevity is also pretty good. It can go from morning till late in the afternoon. Florabellio is not for everyone but if you like strange, then you might want to give this a try.
