FRAGRANCE | The Chronic Extrait de Parfum by Byron Parfums: For the sweet tooth in you

halfwhiteboy - The Chronic Extrait de Parfum by Byron Parfums

The first thing I noticed when I sprayed on Byron Parfums's The Chronic is the ultra-fine mist it produces. I can't say I like it because I feel like I don't get enough from each spray but it just caught my attention.

Scent-wise, I observed that it behaves differently according to what I assume is the weather. The first time I tried it, I was greeted with a strong and sharp opening, ferried by a sea of sweetness. The spicy sharpness stung my nostrils a bit but it was tolerable. When I wore it again recently, I was surprised that the sharpness was gone. There was probably a hint but it was easy to miss. But my, what a difference a few months interval can make!

As for the sweetness, it's almost candy-like in character and is not bogged down by any added weight from vanilla or some other viscous ingredient. The vibe—not the scent—is similar to MFK's Baccarat Rouge 540, sans the underlying smokiness. There's also a mild camphorous kick to it, which I suspect is that spicy sharpness I experienced before, now perfectly rounded to complement the sweetness. There's hardly any progression to be expected from this fragrance, however, but I'm okay with it. I like its general candy-like profile just fine and I don't find it cloying at all.

This frag is perfectly unisex to my nose, a yummy scent that works best in colder times but which I reckon will still be largely okay otherwise. Performance is good, with good projection and great longevity. If you have a sweet tooth when it comes to fragrances, this might be right up your alley.
