FRAGRANCE | Succus EDP by Liquides Imaginaires: A restrained, aromatic citrus beauty
Liquides Imaginaires's Succus is one of those fragrances that I've
forgotten about already. I don't know why but I always thought of it as a
sweet frag. Of course I'm wrong. Because the weather has been relatively
colder than normal, I reached for it, thinking I needed something sweet to go
with the dipping temperature. And then... surprise!
Succus opens with an aromatic, herbal-laced citrus. The acidity here is
tempered, so the citrus doesn't come off as piercing but rounded and pleasant.
It's not sweet and the overall vibe is bright but not overly perky. The herbs
have sort of camphorous feel to them that I find relaxing. However, I'm pretty
sure it won't appeal to everyone—even if it's a far cry from
Olympic Orchids's Siam Proun. That one is just pure herbal bliss whereas Succus benefits from a few other elements.
Ginger comes into play shortly, followed by hints of sweetish florals, but
nothing too domineering. All elements still work together to form a blend
rather than outdo each other. There are woody undertones as well, further
grounding the scent. After several minutes, an overarching, plasticky accord
appears, which I don't like that much. Underneath it, however, the blend of
herbs, citrus, and woody tones are still present. Moreover, this plasticky smell eventually lifts off after about two hours, leaving a warm and slightly sweet woody base that's laced with those beautiful herbs, every so mildly spiked by whatever remains of the citrus and ginger. Yes, Succus is at its best in the drydown.
This isn't a loud fragrance and it weakens considerably after a few hours. I
tend to respray just to jolt it back to life. It's generally pleasant but I
don't see it wowing most people. It's unisex and is most ideal for daytime and
warm weather use. Presentation's good with its sturdy and elegant pull-out
box. The bottle, which further comes with a pouch, is stylish but refined in
its minimalist aesthetic. If you dig aromatic and herbal scents, then you might want to give this fragrance a shot.
