FRAGRANCE | Memoir Woman EDP by Amouage is devilishly beautiful
Amouage Memoir Woman is just beautiful, a dark fragrance consistent
with its black bottle. The opening is spicy-sweet and fruity, a bit succulent
and with an underlying bitterness. The bitterness is likely from wormwood,
which is also present in
Memoir Man. It's not as in-your-face here, though, because of the more prominent fruity
sweetness and spiciness casting a veil over it, filtering it yet still
allowing its essence to sift through.
A surrounding dark, incense-y smokiness slowly develops, imparting the scent
with a mature and sensual character without really dominating the whole
composition. Its interaction with the other notes gives me
Dior Poison
vibes without being exactly the same scent. The bitterness grows after several
minutes while the combination of fruit and spices renders it almost boozy but
doesn't really commit to it. It actually becomes sweeter after a while even as
the smokiness continues to swirl around ominously.
This is a complex fragrance that may not appear as such on the surface but
there are several nuances at play. I can't particularly make each one out,
probably because I'm completely smitten by Memoir Woman's rather devilish
allure, but I don't think it matters. In its late drydown, the scent melts
on your skin as a warm and sweet embrace, with traces of fruit and smoke
still noticeable up close.
Memoir Woman starts strong but eases into moderate territory for the
most part. It's a long-lasting scent, no doubt, that's best suited for
colder temperatures and for evening and formal affairs. However, because
it's not really that heavy, it's still fairly wearable in warmer climates.
And while it's marketed to women, its general scent profile makes it
arguably unisex. All said, this is one solid offering from the house of
Amouage.
