FRAGRANCE | Sacre Noir by House of Matriarch: A coniferous Yuletide scent with a dark edge

Image
House of Matriarch clearly had Christmas in mind when they created Sacre Noir back in 2017, which has been a seasonal release since. Pine is at the center of this fragrance—a beautifully realistic interpretation with that familiar freshness, biting bitterness, and cold, camphorous feel. But unlike the just-as-fantastic Murkwood by Pineward Perfumes , the perfumer doesn't leave the tree bare. Like a Douglas fir bedecked for the holidays, Sacre Noir is filled with all sorts of elements that call to mind Christmas.

LOOKBOOK | It's actually easy being green

Image
Compared to black, blue, and gray, green certainly isn't a color you see that often in suits—which is why I picked it up in the first place. It's a great option if you want to differentiate yourself from most suit-wearing guys. This one I'm wearing is actually a fairly safe bet since it's in a shade that's not bright and is somehow on the earthy end of the spectrum.

FRAGRANCE | Into the woods with Murkwood Parfum Extrait by Pineward Perfumes

Image
After registering in my passive fragrance radar a short couple of months ago, Pineward Perfumes immediately prompted a quick search from me all because of pine. It comes as no surprise because I totally enjoy the likes of Serge Lutens's Fille en Aiguilles and House of Matriarch's Sacre Noir , both of which beautifully use pine as a prominent note. Pineward Perfumes is a very young indie brand, having launched just last year (2020). It has an interesting ethos of being a brand centered on coniferous scents (although understandably not with absolute exclusivity).

LOOKBOOK | I could be brown and purply and velvety

Image
This is another case of a " when you're pressed for time to press your clothes " kind of outfit. I simply dusted off this velvety suit from the hanger after close to two years of inactivity, paired it with a light gray knitted piece, and topped the look with a pocket square. For footwear, I thought these brown ombre double monk strap shoes was in line with my outfit's color palette, so I decided to give them a spin. And that's about it.
