FRAGRANCE | Teakwood Cologne by Bath & Body Works: Typical crowd-pleaser (that doesn't quite please me)
I don't have much experience with this house. We do have a couple of body
mists at home but except for the very yummy
Christmas Cookies, I don't really care much about them. That said, I don't particularly recall
how I came to have a bottle (and accompanying lotion) of Bath & Body Works Teakwood Cologne. Anyway, I have it, so might as well use it.
Lavender opens the show, accompanied by a citrusy sharpness and a brief
alcohol sting. Right off the bat, it smells like some typical, crowd-pleasing
men's frag, which baffles me even more as to why I have it since I don't
particularly like these kinds of fragrances. I looked it up and it's
purportedly a copy of Abercrombie & Fitch Fierce. Again, not my
type.
The acidity persists and greatly overwhelms the lavender. I suspect there must
be some spice in the composition that exacerbates the sharpness. Thank heavens
it mellows a bit—just a bit—after fifteen or so minutes when a very mild
sweetness appears. A light woody base slowly emerges but unfortunately, it
hardly make an impression because of the still-present sharpness. Despite the
cologne's name, I find it hard to associate the scent with wood.
Teakwood is practically linear. It performs slightly better than the usual
cologne but you'll need resprays to get you through the day because while it
lasts a little longer than a typical cologne, it quickly loses steam and sits
close to the skin for the most part. Ironically, though, it can be suffocating
when oversprayed. Over time, the sharpness is sanded off a bit and the scent
becomes a tad sweeter. The wood is also now a lot more noticeable, even
revealing a mildly smoky and warm facet after about two hours.
Overall, it's a meh for me but if you're into frags like
AF Fierce, then Bath & Body Works Teakwood might be worth
trying.
