One of the many standout scenes for me in X-Men: First Class involved Erik Lehnsherr in a pub somewhere in Argentina. It wasn't really a grand spectacular showcase of Magneto's powers but it highlighted his menacing character in a subtle yet very striking manner. In that sequence, there were just three other men, a knife, and a gun. I'm going with the knife for this shoot. It's Friday and I'm not wearing jeans, all because of this Magneto fanboy insanity that's beset me. While he did wear polos in the movie, they were never seen with jeans. And so be it, no jeans. The polos Michael Fassbender wore in the film were just about the right fit, fitted enough but never too tight. Pure perfection! Just look at them:

It's another turtleneck for today, also from Onesimus. Good thing the weather's still wet so it's still all good even if I put on a jacket. While yesterday it was a rather formal jacket over the turtleneck, today it's a more casual vibe with this leather one from Zara. And here goes the inspiration: Cool this Magneto guy, eh? And note that his leather jacket is not the usual black stuff, which makes it a more interesting piece. I also patterned my hairstyle today after his but don't expect the exact same effect. Although we both have wide foreheads, my hair's shorter and dare I say, thinner. Pinstripe pants (Topman); belt (Hickok at SM Department Store); shoes (Zara).

Where normally one would dress according to the weather, it was the other way around with me today: the weather behaved according to my outfit. So instead of saying my outfit is perfect for today's wet weather, I'd say my turtleneck and jacket are perfect for this rainy Wednesday! You see, I've decided the other night that instead of just phony image distortions and floating coins for Magneto week, it should be my outfit that reflects the inspiration from the iconic villain in the first place. It is in this context, therefore, that I am whipping out stuff from my closet that will display my take on Michael Fassbender's effortlessly cool Erik Lehnsherr in X-Men: First Class. I started off with a black turtleneck from Onesimus. Turtlenecks are evidently a favorite of Erik's in the film, and I perfectly understand why. For one, they're very versatile, casually cool on their own and easy to dress up in an instant. Oh look, he also wore a black ...

My Bibe and I watched X-Men: First Class last night and both of us were satisfied with the film. But of course, and as it has always been, it's Magneto that I loved the most. Michael Fassbender of Inglorious Basterds fame played Erik Lehnsherr (a.k.a. Magneto)  to the hilt but never as a caricature. His portrayal showed Magneto's pain and anger, and the menace that he can be because of all that. Oh boy, do I love to kill Sebastian Shaw as well in the most brutal way possible, but how he did it in the film was just perfectly brilliant (Oops!). Fassbender also has this commanding presence that fills every scene, easily drowning everyone else -- at least the weaker actors. It doesn't hurt either that Erik was a fashionable guy in the film. The movie's costume designer, as I've read on GQ.com , took inspiration from the early James Bond movies as First Class was primarily set in 1962. And might I say that Fassbender does justice to those outfits very much.
