TV | No Sibling Rivalry: Brother and sister are happy to compete for the title of MasterChef Australia

Image
I still remember the first time I got hooked on  MasterChef Australia  back in 2011. It was actually reruns of the show's 2nd season where 20 year-old  Callum Hann  made it to the finale but lost to Adam Liaw.  The world’s most famous cooking show franchise all began with MasterChef Australia’s ingenious take on UK’s original MasterChef series. The Australian version started the now popular format of hundreds of home cooks competing to be part of a small group of contestants, cooking from challenge to challenge to make their way to the title of MasterChef. Judges Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and George Calombaris return to offer their guidance to the group of contestants in the eighth season of MasterChef Australia , premiering July 4 on LIFETIME and airing 8PM all weekdays . Now on its 8th season, MasterChef Australia, premiering July 4 on LIFETIME and airing 8PM all weekdays, has only gotten bigger and better. Judges Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and ...

Cee Lo Green's equally stoned cat

Image
Whatever people have to say about Cee Lo Green's flirty attitude towards gorgeous contestants on The Voice , My Bibe and I are very much entertained by his antics. Every time he speaks, he just seems like this slouching, stoned guy who speaks slowly and in a cool, low register. And it's always a pleasure to see him in clips stroking his furry little friend, a Persian cat he named Purrfect , like both of them are stoned. Cats are awesome! Source Cee Lo describes Purrfect as his secret weapon. Although I'm obviously charmed, we'll have to wait and see till the finale if this season's winner will indeed come from his camp.

David Archuleta doing a series for TV5?

Image
I don't know how true this is but hey, it's in the TV station's official website (unless it was hacked). Anyway, American Idol alum David Archuleta is scheduled to arrive in Manila on Friday, January 13 to do a prime time series for local network TV5. According to the website, he'll be working with TV5 talents Jasmin Curtis Smith and Eula Caballero. [Update: It is true. Apparently, it was announced yesterday on TV5's showbiz talk show Paparazzi.] TV5 surely is upping the ante in its persistent bid to get past its no. 3 spot in the ratings game. And might I say, it's doing so in an expensive fashion. Archie's signing up may be huge for a local production but in the U.S., he hardly has a career anymore, especially after he was dropped by his label for poor sales of his last album. Another question is, I thought he was taking a two-year sabbatical from showbiz to serve as a Mormon missionary? Oh well, let's see. At any rate, welcome to the Philipp...

MasterChef Australia's Callum Hann

Image
The last couple of weeks  My Bibe and I have been so addicted to MasterChef Australia . Although what we were catching on StarWorld was Season 2, which ran last year, we were hooked even if we already knew what the outcome would be. It became a regular Friday night (til the wee hours of Saturday morning) viewing habit for us. I always thought Top Chef  was the best cooking competition on TV but MasterChef changed all that. Heck, they even had Junior MasterChef Australia, which was so cute! Although the always-smiling  Marion Grasby and eventual winner Adam Liaw were among my favorites, including  Aaron Harvie who had this bad boy image, it was 20-year old Callum Hann  who charmed us the most. It was a joy to watch him disheveled during a challenge, all serious and worried during judging, and when he suddenly bursts into a smile after hearing compliments from the judges. Callum was runner-up to Adam. Callum Hann, MasterChef Australia Season 2 Run...

Lessons from Mara Clara

Image
What its home network branded as "Ang Ina ng Pinoy Teleserye,"   Mara Clara  is now on the homestretch, with its finale slated on June 3. I'm happy they're ending it while it's still on top -- and consistently so! Okay, so the story may have dragged in some episodes but overall, the remake was still fast-paced, especially when compared to the 90's original. Going back, I thought of sharing with you some of the lessons I've learned from sporadically watching Mara Clara. This is not a countdown but a random list. Here goes... 1. Never enter into a relationship with someone you do not really love (especially if that someone isn't good-looking at all). Do you really think Alvira was in love with venom-spewing villain Gary back in their college days? She may have realized this later on, which is probably why she broke up with Gary. But the guy turned out to be an obsessive, delusional psycho who was hell-bent on winning her back -- through all those ...

The magic of Mara Clara

Image
I decided to watch Mara Clara last night after seeing this girl on YouTube (shared by Raymond Santos via Facebook) over the weekend: Crazy, right? Of course Mara couldn't be dead. Like what the crying girl's sister said, she's the protagonist after all. So I'm just waiting for the twist to be revealed. My Bibe has a theory: she suspects the burnt victim was Nenita. But where could Mara be? Was she whisked away by someone who's got eyes on her, and then she falls into a coma then wakes up having amnesia? Sounds familiar? Martha Cecilia's Kristine, anyone?
