LOOKBOOK | Summer layering with a kimono

It's tough to go layering in a tropical country like the Philippines because unless you're in an air-conditioned space all day, chances are you'll end up soaked in sweat. Kimonos, however, offer a rather stylish alternative so you can still layer in summer. Think of an oversize lightweight cardigan.

Updated to fit in today's fashion landscape, these kimonos come in all sorts of colors and prints. Some come with strings or bands for fastening while other styles, like the one I'm wearing here, eschew them altogether for something more open and free.

My kimono here is from House of Nippon, an Instagram find that I've been following for a while now. So after months of just looking at their feed, I finally made my first purchase. I guess I really liked the print.

Printed or plain, this piece is already a statement all unto itself, so I kept everything plain and simple in black. I believe it's the perfect way to highlight the kimono.

Now I'm thinking of getting at least one more.
