FRAGRANCE | Un Jardin Sur Le Nil EDT by Hermès: A fruits and veggies delight

halfwhiteboy - Un Jardin Sur Le Nil EDT by Hermès 03a

Another one from Hermès's garden-themed line, Un Jardin Sur Le Nil is characteristically green and fresh with just the right amount of sweetness. It's not the clean or soapy kind of fresh but just the same, it's a no-brainer spring/summer scent.

Un Jardin Sur Le Nil opens predictably bright with a zesty but smooth citrus. Alongside this perk-me-up greeting is a distinct vegetable accord; not quite bitter but unmistakably green. I get the carrot that's listed, too, which all the more makes for a fairly unique scent. Unfortunately all of this is fleeting and disappears in a matter of minutes.

This fragrance must really be in a hurry, as a sweet fruitiness quickly takes over. Mango is quite prominent here but it's not the sweet and luscious Philippine mangoes I'm accustomed to. This one is a bit sour but not entirely green and unripe because there's still a prevailing sweetness hovering.

Before long the scent settles into a slightly sweet, aromatic green base reminiscent of other releases from the Un Jardin line. Though not exactly the same, Un Jardin Sur Le Toit comes to mind. From hereon Sur Le Nil's strength gradually decreases although it's not the most powerful fragrance to begin with. Nevertheless it can last from morning till early afternoon, give or take. Resprays are sure to come in handy.

In hindsight, Un Jardin Sur Le Nil is a beautifully composed fragrance. Never mind that the wearer is almost deprived of fully enjoying each stage in its development, as if it's rushing to get to the drydown. I like it, yes, but I don't think everybody will, so I suggest giving it a try first to see if it works for you.
