FRAGRANCE | YSL La Nuit de L'Homme EDT is clearly made for evenings

Image
Much has been said about this already, let alone the spate of reformulations that followed its release in 2009. What I have is a fairly new 2018 bottle, which I can only assume is but a shadow of its former self, as what many lament. YSL La Nuit de L'Homme EDT has a spicy-citrus opening; bright and pleasant. Given the name, I was expecting something dark but I simply don't get any. It's very far from other dark scents I know, like the handsome and brooding  Black No.1 by House of Matriarch , or even the gloriously sweet and smoky oakmoss from Maxim's pour Homme .

FRAGRANCE | Rive Gauche pour Homme EDT by YSL: Can't go wrong with a classic

Image
As with the YSL classic M7 , Rive Gauche pour Homme has also been discontinued and subsequently re-released by the house in those uniformly squarish bottles with the black cap. While I've been able to compare M7 with its re-release, M7 Oud Absolu , I haven't done the same with Rive Gauche. This review is for the original, the one in the slender tin can. Not exactly a fan of the choice of material but I love the metallic striped design. It looks so elegant despite aluminum's lack of inherent glamor.

FRAGRANCE | Who's afraid of Kouros EDT by Yves Saint Laurent?

Image
Much has been said about this 1981 classic by Yves Saint Laurent . Many have complained about it smelling skanky, sweaty, like cat piss, a urinal, and so on - perhaps to the point of dissuading others who might have wanted to give it a try. I was actually quite scared myself after reading all those reviews but eventually I pulled the trigger and made a blind buy. After all, several low-rated fragrances have actually worked well on me.

FRAGRANCE | M7 Oud Absolu EDP by Yves Saint Laurent: Where's the oud?

Image
There's a lot of talk bemoaning the discontinuance of the original, mighty M7, that it's far more superior than what its current iteration is. I haven't smelled the original, so I have no point of comparison. But I would say that M7 Oud Absolu by Yves Saint Laurent is one gorgeous fragrance.

FRAGRANCE | Opium Pour Homme EDT by Yves Saint Laurent: A beautifully blended classic

Image
A 20-plus-year old fragrance and I've only tried it now. Shame, I know, but better late than never. Described as an oriental spicy fragrance, plus the fact that it came out at a different time, I had apprehensions over this blind buy. No, I wasn't concerned about whether it's considered by many as dated or what because I do dig old-school frags. Somehow I just didn't know what to expect. Well, I thought it would be a monster but no, Yves Saint Laurent's Opium Pour Homme  is one beautiful creature. The bottle, not so much.
