FRAGRANCE | Tamarindo EDP by Memo Paris is pure tropical delight
The first time I saw Memo Paris's Tamarindo in store, I thought it was a tamarind-based fragrance, which would have been really interesting. Turns out it's named after a place in the tropics and there's absolutely no tamarind in here. But my, what a tropical scent this is!
A sweet, juicy pineapple greets you right upon spraying. Although juicy, it's not the fresh fruit kind of pineapple but more like pineapple preserves or a candied version of it. This is far from the pineapple of Aventus or Hacivat, far from being serious at all. This is fun!
Admittedly, the sweetness borders on being a little too much for my liking but I can tolerate it enough to enjoy the fragrance as a whole. Along with it are touches of white floral that lift the scent up a bit. I wouldn't call this fresh because the sweetness adds weight to the overall scent and moves it closer to warm territory. I still think it's a summer frag, though, something you'd wear while on an island getaway somewhere.
The tropical feels it gives is such a delight, similar to what I get with Nishane's Fan Your Flames. But while that one is boozy and much heavier, Tamarindo is wholesome and relatively lighter. Both are loud in their own way, however. Tamarindo's saccharine character endures for hours, pineapple and white florals deliciously wafting around. The fragrance is almost linear although the sweetness and the florals stay longer than the fruit. By this point, the scent has already softened but remains noticeable.
The scent is perfectly unisex and is wearable both day and night. Ideally it fits the summer season best but what's to stop anyone from creating his own personal tropical paradise in the dead of winter anyway? All said, Tamarindo is worth a try. But is it worth Memo's price? That's relative, so definitely sample first.
