I'm not very much into fragrances that says "sport" on the label. I don't know but there's just something about their general scent structure that doesn't appeal to me as opposed to something that says oud. I think the last one I wore and actually liked was Dior Homme Sport . But what about women's fragrances? What makes one a sporty scent? Let's see what Ralph Lauren Polo Sport Woman has to offer.

It's always a joy discovering fragrances that had escaped me in my younger years, more so when I'm not even hunting them. Ralph Lauren came out with Polo Crest in 1991, a time when I was still in my early teens and knew very little to nothing about fragrances. The fashion house has long ceased its production but no matter how belated our meeting, I'm glad I now own a bottle. 

More than a month after I copped a vintage bottle of Ralph Lauren Safari for Men , its significant other somehow landed on my lap without warning. A friend brought it along for me to try and with a single spritz I was smitten. Long story short, I went home with the bottle. Although different in shape and design, the Ralph Lauren Safari for Women flacon has that same liquor bottle aesthetic as the for Men 's, as if it's something that holds expensive bourbon or brandy instead of perfume, more so since the juice is considerably darker than its masculine equivalent. And despite missing a metal crest by design choice, I actually find it more ornate, stately even. It simply has more oomph, even if both are commendable bottle designs. Safari for Women opens with a bang, greeting you with a heady mix of florals, a light sweetness, and the faintest trace of citrus. It also carries with it some green nuances although it's really the aldehydic beauty of the flowers that shine...

I was fortunate to cop a partial bottle of Ralph Lauren 's famed Safari for Men , now sadly discontinued. I know many people are often bewildered as to why brands decide to phase out fragrances that are beloved by many ( hello, 70s Gucci pour Homme ! ) that people often resort to scouring the internet for bottles which prices are jacked up to the heavens just because they're no more. Safari is one of them. But is it worth pursuing at all?

I'll be honest that I haven't thought much about Ralph Lauren fragrances for quite some time. Yeah, I've been through my Polo days but with the exception of the original green bottle (I haven't tried Chaps and Safari just yet), nothing seems to excite me anymore - until I tried Polo Supreme Oud .

As Sheldon (of The Big Bang Theory ) would say, dear Lord! Lots of things to do. The Holidays are also fast approaching and before we know it, the year's over. Dear Lord! Anyway, I have a little affair with red today. There's the bow tie, the belt, and the socks. Red goes well with pink anyway. And brown.

Friday. Finally! Our boss treated the whole team to a buffet dinner at Dad's in Glorietta 4 earlier this evening. I believe I've had more than my fair share of tuna sashimi and California maki that I had to have coffee the minute I arrived home. It was fun, I must say. And I hope that all the crazy things we shared in the spirit of fun will indeed bear fruit. Moving on to today's outfit, I pulled out this old shirt from my closet. It's from Artwork and I had it for many years now. It's got some Chinese characters on it that supposedly mean "lion." I know I'm no Gryffindor but I couldn't find one with a snake then. Anyway, I believe I was drawn primarily to the shirt's color, then the fit. Err, about the fit, that applied way back then because nowadays I'm forced to suck it all in, which is quite difficult after having a buffet dinner. Finally, some rest! I'm starting the long weekend a day earlier with My Bibe . So I'll have Friday through Tuesday next week free of work. (To my readers outside the Philippines, we have back-to-back holidays next week, Monday being National Heroes' Day and Tuesday marking the end of Ramadan.) I wore pink today, a vintage Dior that we've thrifted somewhere. A colleague even remarked that it's not something available today, that the fabric was different. Our conversation led to our moms who wore these really short dresses in the 70's, us marveling at how good the fabrics were back then. So I perfectly understand My Bibe 's obsession with vintage clothes. And man has she been getting a lot of them from ebay! Anyway, I put on these gray pinstripe pants from Topman to go with the shirt. I would have worn brown shoes by default but I opted instead for these black ones from Traffic because I wanted to wear a non-leather belt. I went with this striped red...

This morning I had a taste of what it feels like to wear shades indoors. Well, here's the story. We started shooting with me wearing a polo from Paul Smith, jeans from Penshoppe, a belt from Polo Ralph Lauren, and high-cut sneaks from Zara. I also wore a bracelet from H&M. So this was me before silliness came into play:

It's been a fun day. There was food and more food. Even when there was work to do, the atmosphere seemed light. Oh how I love fridays. And of course, My Bibe 's home now, back from Iloilo. My outfit today was pretty simple with just jeans and a polo shirt. The polo was one of about four or five that I got from a Giordano store in HK last year. I just thought I'd wear some color today. The jeans are Topman that I folded around the hem. I'm also wearing sneakers by S***r (Swear) and a striped red belt from Polo Ralph Lauren. And after five straight days of wearing contact lenses, I thought I had to rest my eyes a bit, hence, the glasses from Kenneth Cole. More photos after the jump.

The other night I read a post from Ivy Style , one of the blogs I follow on bloglovin , about how Lacoste came to be the preppy polo of choice (you can read the full article here ). It was a well-written and interesting article about the brand's origins, the story behind the croc logo, the brand's heyday in the 70's, how competitor Ralph Lauren shook its dominance, and its recent resurgence in the fashion world. As expected, it also decried how today's polos are in no way near what the brand used to make back in the day. After reading that informative article, I thought I'd wear a Lacoste polo today. I agree with some readers's comments on Lacoste's quality today. I do find the fabric on the flimsy side but who would want to wear something so thick in this tropical climate? So it's really not an issue with me. Instead, my main issue is the brand's price point. And the peso's weak purchasing power sure doesn't help. On the othe...

I just used up this tiny 15ml bottle of Polo Ralph Lauren Modern Reserve - finally! It was actually part of a travel pack I got at a Duty Free in NAIA 2 back in June last year (while waiting for our flight to Bangkok). I know, it sounds crazy we actually bought stuff before we even left the country. I love scents but I try my best not to open so many bottles at once. At most three are in rotation. My Terre D'Hermes  (which I adore) is also slowly drying up. Done with Body Shop White Musk and Davidoff Cool Water  as well. Now I can open a new one, right? But which one? You'll never guess what I picked, especially since it's not in the photo. Got at least one compliment yesterday when I first used it. Not to worry, some sort of review is due in another post. I'm still "feeling" this new scent. Update:  It's from the much-maligned Hayden Kho. But put all prejudices aside because  Hayden Kho's line of fragrances may surprise you.
