FRAGRANCE | Amouage Beach Hut Woman EDP takes summer in an entirely different direction

halfwhiteboy - Amouage Beach Hut Woman 01

Yes, it's Amouage Beach Hut Woman. I don't have the Man version but turns out this fragrance marketed towards women works just as fine with the opposite sex.

First off, I really like the presentation. Although it's still the same thick, hard box of other Amouage releases, this one is quite the departure from the house's more formal and elegant packaging. It says fun all over it, a design choice befitting something as leisurely as a fragrance that's meant to capture the essence of the beach. Or of a beach hut.

When I first sprayed it I couldn't quite make the scent out. There's a bitter citrus zing, not sweet at all, a bit of saltiness in there, too. It's a bright but particularly different opening, quite unlike the usual lineup of summer freshies we're probably accustomed to. It's not overtly citrusy like Diptyque L'Eau des Hesperides, nor is it minty like Lush's Dirty. It also doesn't carry any tropical cocktail vibe like that of Nishane Fan Your Flames. Beach Hut Woman takes summer in an entirely different direction.

The fragrance still takes you to the beach, though, only this time you're comfortably lounging under the shade of a beach hut. I say this because after several minutes I get a salty woodiness swirling around—and then the scent of dried straw, the very material used in making—you guessed it—beach huts. The dryness is strangely mesmerizing. All of a sudden memories of vacations gone by came flooding through my mind. Only then did I get why this fragrance was named as such. I'm impressed.

As it dries down a tinge of sweetness kicks in, and it's even more amazing. It's fairly linear in terms of development but I find the scent really addictive. It projects strongly in its first two hours but somehow the scent remains light, so it's never overbearing. It softens after about four hours but boy, is it long-lasting! Amouage Beach Hut Woman is fairly unique in terms of scent profile and is something that you should really try. Forget the "Woman" tag; it's perfectly unisex.
